While the search for our new Two Scooper continues, I thought it might be nice to take a walk down memory lane and check out some of Mary P's most memorable columns of the last three years. Mary was with us much longer than that, but the Two Scoops columns were not archived until 2004. There are many to choose from, but here are three that stand out.
June 28, 2004: Got It
I wish they were portraying Derek as a loving and caring father instead of an absent parent. I'm not sure when this "new" image of Derek came along. If he was the old loving Derek perhaps it would help us to warm to Danielle some. I understand that AMC would like Reggie and Danielle to be the next super couple. I don't see that happening. While Reggie has gained lots of support and is an asset to the show, he needs a strong female to play opposite him and Danielle doesn't seem to cut it. Yes, PV used to have teenage super couples --- those being Greg and Jenny and Jesse and Angie. They were wonderful to watch and root for. The current writers don't seem to be able to generate that kind of magic today.
March 7, 2005: Adieu Our Friend, Edmund
Edmund is now officially dead and this puts an end to more of Pine Valley's history. I've heard from so many about this murder and most of it goes the way of this week's AMC Fan Spotlight of the Week which comes from Bonnie who writes "It was bad enough that they got rid of Edmund, but why did they have to make him a bad guy after all these years?." Yes, Bonnie, why would the writers turn Edmund into a bad guy? Is it so long time viewers wouldn't be upset that he was being let go and killed off? Well, they are wrong as Edmund was a wonderful character and John Callahan's acting will be sorely missed. This is a HUGE AMC loss.
October 23rd, 2006: If I were In Charge & I am Available
One could say AMC needs to be concerned considering the ratings during the Madden reveal tied their all time low which places the show just above the perennial basement dwelling Passions for total viewers. I can't understand why TPTB would think allowing the burial, torture and subsequent murder being committed by a beloved PV character, Tad, would set well with long time viewers. They are still toying with about if Tad just confessed, but someone else such as Jamie actually did the crime, but at this point, it doesn't matter anymore. [..] I see on Cady McClain's (Dixie) blog she is trying to explain why Dixie is who she is now and also is asking viewers to "stay with us" so even the actors must be aware of the ratings and lack of viewers. So now here's how I'd fix AMC if I were in charge.
